The design restores the building’s distinctive façade and verandahs, retaining a large amount of its intact external and internal fabric. Sensitive new additions provide boutique accommodation and landscaped courtyards, reinforcing its position as a visual landmark at the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Station Street. Strong connections to neighbouring Memorial Park enhance its civic presence, ensuring the Imperial remains a defining destination at the heart of Mt Victoria.​
